About Child Labour
Social norms and economic realities mean that child labour is widely accepted and very common in Bangladesh. Many families rely on the income generated by their children for survival, so child labour is often highly valued. Additionally, employers often prefer to employ children because they are cheaper and considered to be more compliant and obedient than adults.

Although the Government of Bangladesh and civil society organisations are now actively working to increase awareness of child labour and child rights, studies show that the number of child labourers has increased alarmingly over the last few years. An ILO study[1] observes that “the level of awareness on the issue of child labour is still low. Society in general has a rather indifferent attitude towards the problem.
